Lake County Prevention Information Sheet

Prevention in Lake County

Lake County Prevention collaborates with partners throughout the community to develop and provide a full continuum of needed and unduplicated services committed to ensure Lake County is a safe, supportive, and drug-free place for families and commerce.

Members of Lake County's community coalition UPIC (United Prevention Intervention Coalition) include government officials, early learning and school representatives, Public Health, social service providers, law enforcement, mental health organizations, Lake District Hospital, community justice programs, ministerial association, and other interested community leaders.

Lake County Prevention coordinates Student Prevention Groups for all of the middle and high schools within the County. Prevention coordinates with the Lake County Youth Mentoring Program to improve outcomes for children, youth, and families.  Prevention strives to support Drug Free Workplaces programs for employers throughout the County.

Prevention activities have been funded through federal block grants, the Drug Free Communities (DFC) Grant, the Sober Truth On Preventing Underage Drinking (STOP) Act grant, and Garrett Lee Smith Youth Suicide Prevention Grant.

Lake County uses multiple prevention strategies to address alcohol, marijuana, and other drug abuse including:
  • Continuous Coalition Development and Recruitment
  • Reducing Social Availability of Alcohol to Minors
  • Compliance Checks
  • DUI Enforcement and Underage Drinking Prevention
  • Support of Zero Tolerance School Policies
  • Social Hosting Laws
  • Community education and mobilization
Please contact us if you have any questions, want to become a member of UPIC or a Student Prevention Group, or would like more information about prevention programs for your organization.
